What is the Nutrition and Dietetics Department? Why Should I Study in this field?

Nutrition and Dietetics is the science of the effects of nutrients on human health, and how foods should be consumed. The discipline prepares students for careers in both the health and food sectors. Graduates of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department obtain the title of "Dietitian". Dieticians examine the effects of changes occurring during the processing, preparation, cooking and storage of foods on the human body; identify malnutrition problems in the community, and take measures to address the related health issues; perform nutritional analyses; and develop dietary products and diet programs that are suitable for the specific needs of individuals or groups.

Why should I study Nutrition and Dietetics at Cappadocia University?

Cappadocia University considers university education to be a development process in which both the professional and general knowledge of the students are increased. In addition to profession-oriented theoretical and practical courses, the Cappadocia University Nutrition and Dietetics Department offers its students courses such as basic presentation and communication skills, general culture, digital platforms and basic computer skills, and professional English. It aims to graduate students that are fully equipped with, and who know how to learn new skills, and who are ready for the career prospects that await them.

Applied courses are given in the fully kitted-out facilities of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, while students can also practice one-to-one. An anatomy and dissection laboratory and genetics laboratory are also used in the trainings. The practice kitchens of the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts undergraduate department are also used by the students of this program.

Graduates of the Nutrition and Dietetics department are employed in state institutions and ministries such as the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. They also have a wide range of other potential workplaces, such as public and private hospitals, the food-pharmaceutical sector, national and international nutrition organizations (TDD, WHO, FAO), mother-child health centers, medical centers, public nutrition agencies, sports centers, public healthcare units, private nutrition counseling centers, research institutions and educational institutions. In addition, they can also participate in postgraduate and doctorate programs in universities and become researchers/lecturers.
