Winner of the Presidential Grand Prize for Culture and Arts, founder of the University of Cappadocia Alev Alatlı, in the second year of his death, “III. It will be remembered by the Symposium on Understanding Alev Alatlı”.
The
symposium, which will be held on February 5—6, will cover Alev Alatlı through his novels, intellectual texts and critical approach. In the two-day program, Alatlı's place in the world of literature and thought will be evaluated in a multidimensional, academic context.
The opening of the
symposium will be held with speeches by Nevşehir Governor Ali Fidan, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Karasar and our Chairman of the Board of Trustees Funda F. Aktan. In the talk that will be held after the opening, Alev Alatlı's world of thought will be discussed in the context of current social and intellectual issues. In the sessions to be held within the scope of the program; the relations of society, identity and power in Alev Alatlı's novels; the types of intellectuals and criticism of the Enlightenment, his attitude towards modernism and his view of Russian thought; the issue of tradition, indigenous thought and the “direction” in the Turkish intelligentsia will be discussed in a holistic framework.
In the
session titled “Society, Identity and Power”, Prof. Dr. Beyhan Kanter, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Narlı and Dr. Associate Professor Cafer Gariper will evaluate Alev Alatlı's novels on the axis of women, identity and power relations. The session, which will be held under the title “Aydin Type, Enlightenment Criticism and Russia”, will be held by Prof. Dr. Kadir Canatan, Prof. Dr. Adem Polat, Prof. Dr. Taşansu Türker and Senior Lecturer. Dr. Sercan Ceylan will address Alatlı's intellectual criticism and his intellectual relationship with Russian thought in different dimensions

In the session “Tradition and Indigenous Thought” to be held on the second day of the symposium, Prof. Dr. Ali Utku, Assoc. Dr. Muhammed Khülum and Prof. Dr. Bahtiyar Aslan will discuss Alev Alatlı's approaches to indigenous thought, tradition and Western criticism. The program will also include Prof. Dr. Ahmet Dağ and Assoc. Dr. Sait Kar in the talk titled “Alev Alatlı's Critique of Modernism”, and Prof. Dr. Musa Kazım Arıcan and Mahmut Bıyıklı in the interview titled “The Question of Stability in the Turkish Intellect”.
iii. Understanding Alev Alatlı Symposium will be hosted by the University of Cappadocia as a qualified academic meeting that addresses Alev Alatlı's intellectual heritage on an interdisciplinary basis, connects his texts with new readings and assumes the responsibility of carrying this legacy into the future.
